چکیده
We propose an efficient approach for authoring dynamic and realistic waterfall scenes based on acquired video sequence. Traditional video based techniques generate new images by synthesizing 2D samples, i.e., texture sprites chosen from video sequence. However, they are limited to one fixed viewpoint and cannot provide arbitrary walkthrough into 3D scenes. Our approach extends this scheme by synthesizing dynamic 2D texture sprites and projecting them into 3D space. We first generate a set of basis texture sprites, which capture the representative appearances and motions of waterfall scenes contained in the video sequence. To model the shape and motion of a new waterfall scene, we interactively construct a set of flow lines taking account of physical principles. Along each flow line, the basis texture sprites are manipulated and animated dynamically, yielding a sequence of dynamic texture sprites in 3D space. These texture sprites are displayed using the point splatting technique which can be 1 Figure 1: One snapshot of the modelled waterfall scene with our approach. The image resolution is 700×400. The rendering speed is 20 fps. accelerated efficiently by graphics hardware. By choosing varied basis texture sprites, waterfall scenes with different appearances and shapes can be conveniently simulated. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves realistic effect and real-time frame rates on consumer PC platforms.

Online Accelerated Rendering of Visual Hulls in Real Scenes
This paper presents an online system which is capable of reconstructing and rendering dynamic objects in real scenes. We reconstruct visual hulls of the objects by using a shape-from-silhouette approach. During rendering, a novel blending scheme is employed to compose multiple background images. Visibility artifacts on the dynamic object are removed by using opaque projective texture mapping. W...
متن کاملRendering Grass in Real-Time with Dynamic Light Sources and Shadows
Since grass is very abundant on the Earth’s surface, it is an important element of natural 3D scenes. Real-time realistic rendering of grass has always been difficult due to the huge number of grass blades. Overcoming this geometric complexity usually requires many coarse approximations to provide interactive frame rates. However, the performance comes at the cost of poor lighting quality and l...
متن کاملA Three-tier Hierarchical Model for Capturing and Rendering of 3D Geometry and Appearance from 2D Images
We propose a three-scale hierarchical representation of scenes and objects and show how this representation is suitable for both computer vision capture of models from images and efficient photo-realistic graphics rendering. The model consists of: (1) a conventional triangulated geometry on the macro-scale; (2) a displacement map, introducing pixel-wise depth with respect to each planar model f...
متن کاملRealistic and Fast Cloud Rendering
Clouds are an important aspect of rendering outdoor scenes. This paper describes a cloud system that extends texture splatting on particles to model a dozen cloud types (e.g., stratus, cumulus congestus, cumulonimbus), an improvement over earlier systems that modeled only one type of cumulus. We also achieve fast real-time rendering, even for scenes of dense overcast coverage, which was a limit...
متن کاملAn interactive method for refractive water caustics rendering using color and depth textures
Realistic rendering of underwater scenes is one of the most anticipated research topics in computer graphics. Caustics are the important component enhancing the realism of this kind of scenes. Unfortunately, rendering caustics is a time consuming task. As a result, most existing algorithms cannot handle this at interactive rate. In recent years, volumetric texture based rendering algorithms hav...
